Renowned singer and songwriter Otile Brown have left many Kenyans shocked after he turned down his Afrimma Awards nominations.
Otile Brown has consistently been releasing hit after hit despite the coronavirus crisis.
The singer had been nominated in the Best Male East Africa category alongside artists like Diamond Platnumz.
Otile made the announcement in an Instagram story he posted.

It is speculated that by wanyama, Otile was referring to artists such as Diamond Platnumz who refers to himself as Simba/lion. And Harmonize who refers to himself as tembo/elephant. Also Rayvanny refers to himself as chui/leopard.
His decision was followed by so much trolling. So some people felt that Otile Brown is scared of losing, while others said that he should be humble he even made it to nominations.
But other netizens were quick to admit that Kenyans do not support their own artists and it could be the reason Otile chose out.
In a different post made on his Instagram story, Otile Brown explained why he doesn’t want to be associated with the awards.
A while back I was called by some award show and guaranteed a win if I paid for my flight expenses to attend the award ceremony. That is when I and my team canceled story za awards. Some artists do that but I can never do such a thing. I’m true to myself. Thought it’s only fair if my fans get to know that.
