Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has earlier today rejected social media claims that he is in isolation.

Government spokesperson Cyrus Oguna had ascertained that Matiang’i is currently undergoing treatment for the virus.

Wangui Muchiri who is also a spokeswoman for the ministry affirmed that the CS is not hospitalized. “He is well and discharging his functions” she said.

A statement issued on the tweeter pages the Interior Ministry posted this

To all members of the public, please disregard the fame news and misinformation being spread on various outlets that he is hospitalized.

The media reports and President Uhuru’s directive barring all Cabinet secretaries from travelling outside Nairobi, because of a in Covid-19 cases across the country reinforced the social media rumours. And Matiang’i has not being seen in government functions. Such as Covid-19 daily briefings. So the rumours disseminating on social media implied that Matiang’i had been admitted at Aga Khan Hospital after contracting the virus.

Oguna had earlier this week also dismissed claims that he had tested positive for corona virus.

As a result, he took to Twitter to say, “We have noted reports on social media purporting that I have been admitted in hospital. I wish to clarify that I am well and just got back from an assignment out of town.”

But in a statement on Friday he said,

Recently having come from an assignment out of town, I developed mild coronavirus symptoms and got tested. The results came back positive for coronavirus and I am now receiving medical care and responding well to treatment at an isolation and treatment facility.

Oguna clarified that contact tracing is ongoing, add added that his household is fine.
